Hyderabad: Telangana Congress leaders and cadre celebrated the birthday of Sonia Gandhi across the state. While leaders conducted blood donation camps at Gandhi Bhavan, some distributed fruits and sweets at different places in the districts.
TPCC chief A. Revanth Reddy participated in Sonia Gandhi’s birthday celebrations at Gandhian Ideology Centre in Bowenpally.
He said that she had fulfilled the aspirations of Telangana. It is on the same day that the UPA government started the process of formation of Telangana fulfilling the 60-year aspiration of the people of the region, he said.
Reddy appreciated the 1,065 blood donors who came forward and distributed saris to women from poor families. Life insurance was provided to those who took membership in the Congress.
"Till now, 609 members have died. 100 such families were given Rs 2 lakh Rajiv Gandhi insurance cheques. Sonia Gandhi felt the responsibility of safeguarding the party members in distress. That is why every member is provided with Rajiv Gandhi life insurance," Reddy said.
Veteran Congress leader V. Hanumantha Rao celebrated her birthday with the party cadre while the TPCC women wing did so at Gandhi Bhavan.
TRS leader Dasoju Sravan and BJP’s Marri Shashidhar Reddy greeted Sonia Gandhi on the occasion.
