Action planned against ‘unethical’ spa centres

VIJAYAWADA: The NTR district administration would take action against violations and ‘unethical’ activities in the spa centres.

District Collector Delli Rao has advised officials to take immediate action on such cases and keep a special vigil on the spa centres to check illegal activities. He held a review meeting with the police, task force, VMC and ICDS officials on Friday.

The collector said the possibility of the spread of a “bad culture” here as in cities like Mumbai and Kolkata should be discouraged. According to section 18, 19 of the ITP Act 1956, strict steps can be taken.

The police, task force and labour departments should form teams to register cases and hold a review meeting every 15 days. Action should be taken if cases are registered against massage centres, he said.

The collector noted that there are 30 to 40 massage centres in the district and some spas are involved in “unethical” activities. Women are being lured into doing immoral acts in some of these spas, he said.

Cases have been registered against 10 such centres. Cases can be registered against owners of such buildings too. Women caught in these centres should be shifted to women's homes, sheltered, counselled and educated, he said.
