Vijayawada: Teen reunited with family after 13 yrs

Bhavani was handed over to her parents Kodipetla Madhava Rao and Varalak-shmi in the presence of her foster parents Jeeva Ratnam and Jayamma.

Vijayawada: Amid drama, Vijayawada resident K. Bhavani, 17, was reunited with her family after 13 years (and not 15 as reported earlier). Bhavani’s employers Mohan Vamsidhar and Krishna Kumar had located her family on Facebook. She had gone missing from her native Cheepurupalli in Srika-kulam as a four-year-old.

Bhavani was handed over to her parents Kodipetla Madhava Rao and Varalak-shmi in the presence of her foster parents Jeeva Ratnam and Jayamma. It was overseen by Mr B.V.S. Kumar, chairman of the Child Welfare Committee of Krishna district, who checked the antecedents of the parents and took the acceptants of both families.

After Bhavani went missing from Cheepurupalli, she landed up in Hyderabad. Jeeva Ratnam and Jayamma from Chilakaluripet of Guntur district took her home and brought her up.

There was some drama before the handing over. Bhavani’s foster parents reached the Patamata police station and demanded that the DNA test of Bhavani and her parents be taken. The police persuaded the couple to allow Bhavani and her parents to be united.

Bhavani’s father Madhava Rao said he had lost hope that they could ever get back their daughter, and hugged her. Two brothers Santosh and Gopi and mother Varalakshmi were all smiles.
