Operation beggars to be re-launched from today in Telangana

Mr Vinoy Kumar Singh, director-general of prisons, said that by December 20, the city would be free of beggars.

HYDERABAD: Following a report in the Deccan Chronicle on begging (With the end of GES show, beggars back in business, December 5) officials from the Telangana state prisons and correctional services have re-launched the operation against begging.

Officials from the prisons department said that more than 20 beggars were shifted to Anand ashrams in Chanchalguda and Cherlapalli on Thursday and Friday. “From Saturday, we will start the operation against begging,” the official said.

Mr Vinoy Kumar Singh, director-general of prisons, said that by December 20, the city would be free of beggars. “We are taking help of the GHMC. We are planning to offer '500 cash reward to citizens who pass information about beggars,” he said.“We are separating repeat offenders in the Anand ashram to provide counselling sessions.” to them,” he said.
