India leads on Day 2 of Indian Naval Academy Admiral's Cup Regatta

All participating teams from Group B competed fiercely in four races at Ettikulam bay.

KANNUR: The second day of the race for the coveted Admiral’s Cup Sailing Regatta 2016 organised by the Indian Naval Academy (INA) saw all participating teams from Group B competing fiercely in four races that were conducted at the picturesque Ettikulam bay on Thursday. Indian Naval Academy’s Sub Lieutenant Shubham Kumar is leading on Group B races followed by Midshipman Molly Robertson of United States of America and Midshipman Ewelina Roman of Poland in second and third positions respectively.

In addition to the competition at sea, all participating team members and officers in-charge were taken on a trek to the top of the historic Mount Dilli located inside the INA campus. Some participants also played a round in the INA golf course ‘Voyage’. Cultures, traditions, languages and art forms of India and the Indian Navy were showcased to the participating members through an audio-visual presentation during the day prior to the competitions.

A lecture-cum-demonstration of five traditional dance forms of Kerala by a professional dance group also took place as part of the programmes. On Friday, the top 13 participants from each group will compete under the category Gold Fleet and the next 13 would compete under Silver Fleet. Each fleet will consist of two races each. Ahead of the competition, Commander Dilip Donde , the first Indian to circumnavigate the world solo in the Indian Naval Sailing Ship Mhadei, will give a presentation on his travelling experience to the participants.
