CM Pinarayi Vijayan bats for scientific investigation
Thiruvananthapuram: As part of giving emphasis to scientific investigation, the state police will set up a forensic laboratory with modern facilities in Kochi, Chief Minister Pinarayai Vijayan said on Thursday. “Instead of third degree methods, the police should focus on scientific methods to solve cases. The forensic science division is making rapid advancements. These changes should be adopted by the police for investigations too,” said the Chief Minister at the inaugural address of the All-India Police Science Conference here. Mr. Vijayan said that the proposed forensic laboratory in Kochi will have modern facilities in the field of DNA examination and cyber forensics.
The Chief Minister also cautioned that the outcome of deliberations in conferences and seminars should not be limited to papers but reflect on policing. “The salaries and other facilities being enjoyed by the police are the money of the taxpayers. Hence the police has an obligation to ensure their services reach the society.” He also asked the police to keep vigil against extremist tendencies. The two-day conference, being organised under the aegis of Bureau of Police Research and Development, will discuss advancements in the filed of investigation. Police officers from various states are attending.
