Vigilance court quashes pleas against N Shanker Reddy

The court rejected the petitions after considering the remarks of the Vigilance Bureau.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Thiruvananthupuram Vigilance court on Tuesday rejected two petitions against State Crime Records Bureau director N. Shanker Reddy. One petition pertained to the alleged attempt by Mr. Reddy, while serving as Vigilance director, to suppress couple of petitions for Vigilance probe against then Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and then power minister Aryadan Mohammed in connection with the solar scam. The other petition related to a letter recently sent by Mr. Reddy to Vigilance director Jacob Thomas alleging a nexus between the petitioner Paichira Navaz and some VACB officials.

Both the petitions were filed by Mr Navaz. The court rejected the petitions after considering the remarks of the Vigilance Bureau. The bureau informed the court that Mr Reddy did not act upon the petitions seeking probe against Mr Chandy and Mr Mohammed as the High Court had stayed a similar case. Meanwhile, the court sought remarks of the government on another petition filed by Navaz alleging irregularity in the previous UDF government's decision to appoint Mr Reddy as Vigilance director overlooking seniority.
