Chennai: The Madras high court has restrained the producer and Gemini Colour Lab from releasing the Tamil film Kadavul Irukan Kumaru, featuring G.V.Prakash and directed by M.Rajesh, which is scheduled to be released on November 10.
Justice M.M.Sundresh granted the interim injunction and ordered notice to G&7G Films represented by its proprietor Senthilkumar, Prism and Pixels, Gemini Colour Lab (the respondents) on an application arising from a suit filed by R.Singaravelan, a distributor.
According to Singaravelan, he has filed the suit for recovery of Rs 82.38 lakh. Originally, he had entered into a contract with producers of the Tamil film Lingaa starring Superstar Rajinikanth and directed by K.S.Ravikumar for exhibition and distribution rights of the film. As per the trade theory known as Trichy-Tanjore, the respondent was named as a person to deal with theatre collections and directly arrange for theatre owners to pay the specified sum of money to the producer of the film, Vendhar movies.
In the course of transaction, the respondent did not pay Rs 61.25 lakh during December 2014 and left with no option, he paid the money to the producer and the respondent assured that the sum will be paid as soon as possible. But they did not do so. He then came to know that the producer was about to release another Tamil film Kadavul Irukan Kumaru. He executed a letter dated June 18 that he will not release the film without clearing his dues.
However, the respondent abruptly with a view defraud him, has fixed the date of release of the film as November 10 and also gave it wide publicity, he alleged.
