PWA leaders slam demand for AIADMK govt's dismissal
Chennai: Amid perceptions by political analysts that the PWA leaders are trying to protect the AIADMK for future political gains, they slammed BJP leader Subramanian Swamy’s demand for dismissing the AIADMK government and opposed the need for an interim Chief Minister.
VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan said Swamy’s statement raised suspicions of BJP trying to rule by proxy in Tamil Nadu. He said the statement had created doubts if the BJP government is trying to weaken the AIADMK and dissolve its government. He said the visit of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi to Apollo Hospital is an attempt to defeat the designs of the BJP.
Interpreting Rahul’s statement that Congress extends its wishes and support to Jayalalithaa, Thirumavalavan said it was intended to stop the BJP from destablising the AIADMK government.
Condemning the statement of Subramanian Swamy, CPI state secretary R. Muthrarasan said the BJP should clarify if the remarks are the opinion of the BJP leadership and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He also accused the BJP of trying to fish in troubled waters.
MDMK general secretary Vaiko, after his meeting with Governor C. Vidyasagar Rao said there was no necessity to appoint a deputy Chief Minister or Chief Minister-in-charge.
However, political analysts opined that the PWA leaders are trying to perpetuate the present state of affairs and opposing an arrangement required under the Constitution.
Political analyst Govi. Lenin said, “The PWA leaders worked for the formation of the AIADMK during the Assembly elections and wanted to prevent the coming back of the DMK. Even now, they are afraid of DMK’s return to power and opposing an interim Constitutional arrangement to run the government. Vaiko is always a supporter of the AIADMK”.
But, he also said the statement of Subramanian Swamy is against democracy and politically motivated. DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin had demanded that an interim Chief Minister or a Chief Minister-in-charge should be appointed till Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa recovered. He said there is a necessity for such an arrangement to find solutions for issues like the formation of the Cauvery Management Board.
