Never-seen-before pics of Charminar on display

The venue of the display has been shifted from Charminar to Urdu hall in view of Dasara and Muharram festivities.

Hyderabad: Heritage enthusiasts are in for a treat as they will get to see over 70 pictures of the Charminar, 12 of which have not been put up for public viewing before, on Sunday.

The venue of the display has been shifted from Charminar to Urdu hall in view of Dasara and Muharram festivities.

Dr Mohd Safiullah, managing Trustee of Deccan Heritage Trust, said, “The pictures depict the serenity of the area around Charminar. The GHMC can view it and recreate the same around the historic monument. Each picture is special and rare in its own way.”

He said visitors could get to see pictures from as far back as 1860 and 1870. “While the aerial pictures are from the 1950s, the ones from the near past are from 1990. It can be called a vintage exhibition,” Dr Safiullah said.

The trust got a shocker when the Narayanguda police gave permission for the exhibition only for Sunday, against the earlier plan to hold it for three days.

“We have received a letter from the police that such events need police protection and on account of Moharrum and Dasara, permission has been granted only for October 9,” Dr Safiullah said. The trust has decided to hold another exhibition on October 16 and 17, he said.
