Kerala government to focus on paddy cultivation
KOZHIKODE: The state government will stress on agriculture, especially paddy production and procurement, said agriculture minister V.S. Sunil Kumar in Perambra. He was inaugurating seminar on Perambra Constituency Development Mission 2025 on Saturday. The seminar presented the 50 developmental projects for the constituency. “Already, nearly 1 lakh hectare of cultivable land have been identified. Along with paddy production, the state faces issues like lack of pure water and drought,” the minister said.
He added that the services of the ‘Bhakshya Suraksha Sena’ (Food Security Army) would be extended to all the panchayats in the state, where the farmers can benefit from the training of the staff. He said that since the KeraFed is facing Vigilance enquiry, funds could not get sanctioned from the finance department and as an immediate resort, the department has to depend on State Cooperative Bank for the initial Rs 49 crore. The seminar released the detailed project report of Subhiksha Food Park. However, the details of the funds for the park are yet to be released.
