Thiruvananthapuram: The Karamana police has began the search for the husband of a woman who was found dead of burn injuries in a rented house near Kaimanom in the wee hours of Thursday. While the landlord and neighbours tried to rescue the woman, her husband was spotted fleeing the scene on a bike. The deceased was identified as Manju, 32, wife of Jayashankar, who resides at Krishna Nagar, Azhankal under Karamana police station limits.

The couple had rented the first floor of the house belonging to one Padmini Amma two months ago. Jayashankar who hails from Neyyatinkara works as a van driver. Jayashankar was away for a few days claiming that he was nursing his mother who was suffering from chicken pox and returned home on Wednesday night.

Early next morning, neighbours woke up hearing the wails of Manju. When Padmini Amma rushed to the spot, Jayashankar was shouting that his wife had set herself on fire. However, as more neighbours rushed to the spot, he fled on a motor cycle. The body was handed over to Manju’s relatives after an inquest held under the watch of revenue officials.
