Let CBI probe child sex racket: Dr Muneer
Kochi: CPM leader from Lakshadweep Dr Muneer who was allegedly assaulted by the police on Minicoy Island on August 25 says an attempt is being made to save others involved in the paedophile racket operated by K. Moosa who was arrested by Lakshadweep police at Nedumbassery airport on August 14.
Dr Muneer, a diabetologist who contested last Lok Sabha elections as a CPM candidate, told DC on Thursday that the police excesses unleashed on innocent islanders last month were aimed at distracting attention from serious issues involving persons in the child sex abuse racket. “There was no provocation for the violence by the police on the people. They only demanded that the culprits be brought to book and Mr Moosa treated like any other accused rather than giving a VIP treatment,” he told DC while on his way to board the ship to Minicoy after undergoing treatment here to recuperate from bruises suffered in the police action.
He was airlifted from to Kochi more than a week ago for expert treatment. “We demand a CBI inquiry into the child sex racket now revolving around Mr Moosa and his wife. Then only more players who are influential can be brought to book. We don’t have faith in Lakshadweep administration. A judicial inquiry should be conducted into the police excesses on innocent islanders,” he said.
He says an attempt is being made to frame him and others in the case of child sex racket and also brand the youth of Minicoy as having dubious links to terrorism. “Such attempts are heinous and deplorable and have to be resisted at the outset. Minicoy is a place where the Republic Day and Independence Day are celebrated in the most intense manner. The life of the island has become different after the police action. People are fearful. So action is needed to restore normalcy,” he said.
