Nilambur is under water
Malappuram: It was a bolt from the blue for the residents of Nilambur as a major part of the town got submerged due to flash floods on Thursday morning.
Sadly it was on the same day (August 8) Nilambur was flooded last year. Shops and houses at many spots were flooded causing huge loss. More than hundred families were evacuated from the Manavedan school premises of Nilambur.
Hundreds of people are still trapped in the houses, many of them atop the roof. As the rain continues the water-level is still rising in the town forcing people to shift to the first floor of their houses.
Power supply to the town has been cut entirely. Cars and home appliances were under water. Many house owners found it tough to believe the fact and resisted to move out from the house. The first floor of many houses was submerged in water in the night itself.
Water level rose more than twelve feet on the main road of Nilamber. The first floor of many shops are under water.
The reason for the flood was believed to be heavy rains that lashed in the surrounding areas and landslides in the hills. The water-level of River Chaliyar has risen within hours submerging the town.
