Hyderabad: Pensioner loses Rs 12 lakh to loan fraudster

Reportedly the victim had approached the scammer after seeing an advertisement placed by him in a newspaper.

Hyderabad: A fraudster cheated a pensioner of nearly Rs 12 lakh under the guise of providing loan of Rs 75 lakh.

Reportedly the victim had approached the scammer after seeing an advertisement placed by him in a newspaper. The Hyderabad cyber crime police booked a case and investigation is on.

According to the complaint, Mr M. Durga Prasad, 63, called the scamster on the contact number given in the newspaper advertisement and said that he was looking for a loan of `75 lakh.

Following this, the scamster pretended to be a finance company representative and sent a sanction letter for a `75-lakh loan. It was to be repaid in 10 years.

Subsequently the scammer made Mr Durga Prasad pay money for security deposit, documentation process and others.

Over a period of time, the scamster made Mr Durga Prasad pay a total of `11.8 lakh.

Later, the scamster demanded that he pay another `3 lakh for releasing the loan. To put pressure on Mr Durga Prasad, the scamster threatened that if he did not sent the money quickly, the loan offer would be rescinded by the head office.

Realising that he had been cheated, Mr Durga Prasad approached the Hyderabad cyber crime police.

A Hyderabad cyber crimes officer said a case had been filed and the police has begun investigations into the scam.
