KOLLAM: Chavara police has registered a case against the BJP Kollam district committee leader Subhash who has already been suspended from the party for allegedly threatening a businessman and extorting money. He has been charged under IPC Section 384 for extortion. Meanwhile, the accused is absconding and the police is in search of him. Manoj, a businessman dealing with drinking water based in Chavara, was telephoned by Subhash on July 28 seeking Rs 5000 towards the party fund. But Manoj had already expressed his reluctance when local level BJP leaders had approached him and had said that he was willing to donate Rs 3000.
They reported his reluctance to Subhash who reportedly threatened Manoj seeking Rs 5000. Immediately the voice recording of Subhash threatening him was sent to BJP State president Kummanam Rajasekharan. Incidentally it transpired that Manoj had already donated funds to the BJP more than five times. Kummanam deputed his leadership to hold a preliminary enquiry and it turned out that Subhash had indeed threatened the businessman, following which he was suspended.
