Taking money for teaching jobs amounts to corruption: CM Pinarayi Vijayan
Thalassery: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has come down heavily on profiteering of educational institutions saying taking money for posting teachers and admitting students is also corruption. ”For last many years, there has been a notion among people that those who wanted big profit can come to the education sector," he said at the inaugural ceremony of Global Alumni Meet of St Joseph’s Higher Secondary School here on Monday.
"These days, managements taking no money for postings are rare. Earlier Christian institutions were an exception but not now. We cannot move forward with such a negative model.” He also criticised the declining standards of engineering colleges. The general education sector in Kerala is facing a crisis, he said, and it is not because of the poor quality in academics but due to the lack of infrastructure.
The state government’s project to elevate 1,000 schools to international standards would include no aided schools. “The government will start smart classrooms in all the general education institutions, thus making them hi-tech," he said."In the first phase, the project will be implemented in high schools and higher secondary schools and in the second stage, it will be extended to primary schools.” The government is also planning to introduce a uniform dress to all students, he said.
