Chennai: Perpetrator gets victims jailed with IAS-bro's help'
Chennai: A 2006-Batch IAS officer of Gujarat cadre reportedly pulled strings to save his brother who harassed a 21-year-old-woman besides indulging in fisticuffs with the latter's husband who resisted his moves on his wife, during the wee hours on Monday.
The official managed to get his brother go scot-free since the cops did not even take the complaint from the couple. Instead, the cops took a complaint from the perpetrator and produced the couple before a court, which remanded them in judicial custody to Puzhal prison.
The incident took place in an apartment complex in Anna Nagar, Shanthi Colony.
The arrested were identified as Preetha (21) and Shivakumar (30), both running a franchise of a beauty salon chain. The couple returned home around midnight after participating in a domestic ceremony. At around 12.30 am, Raghu, another resident of the same apartment complex, came knocking at their doors in an inebriated condition and wanted them to take their car out to make way for his car.
Subsequently, a wordy altercation broke out which escalated as Raghu pushed Preetha down and in the process her nightdress was partially torn. Shivakumar who came to Preetha's rescue was engaged in fisticuffs before other neighbours stepped in to broker peace among the duo.
The couple chose to sleep through the night after speaking to the landlord who suggested that a complaint could be registered on Monday morning. The cops who arrived at the complex at around 2 am, took Shivakumar with them on Raghu's insistence. Preetha, who went to Arumbakkam police station to lodge a complaint against Raghu, was also placed under arrest.
The cops refused even to provide the CSR. “It seems some IAS and IPS officer nexus had worked in between which has converted the victims into perpetrators. Both my sister and brother-in-law ended up behind bars,” Sreeam, Preetha’s brother told DeccanChronicle.
