Nandini death: Notice ordered on bail plea
Chennai: The Principal Sessions court, Chennai, has ordered notice on a bail petition filed by a person arrested on charge of murdering a-24-year-old woman schoolteacher riding a motorcycle along the Marina Loop Road on July 4.
In the bail petition, Karunagaran alias Yamaha Kannan, 30 submitted that he was innocent and police foisted case against him. Nandini, and her relative Najju aka Gayathri, (19), were returning home after withdrawing Rs 25,000 from an ATM. She chased
Yamaha Kannan, a pulsar-borne robber who snatched her bag, when she was less than 100 m away from her residence, around 10.30 pm. on July 4.
The short-chase culminated after the robber pushed her vehicle down while he took a sharp turn into Srinivasapuram Beach Road. She lost control, and went off the Marina Loop Road, and landed on a stone pillar. As the Srinivasapuram dwellers blocked the path, the robber took a U-turn and returned to the Marina Loop Road, and was caught with the bag. The Foreshore police registered case against him and arrested him.
When the matter came up for hearing, the principal sessions court judge, Dr G. Jayachandran directed City Public Prosecutor M.L. Jegan to file reply on the petition and adjourned the matter to Tuesday.
