Coimbatore police launch search for Glider' Babu

Post-mortem was done on the body of the deceased at Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) and was handed over to his family members.

COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore police are on the lookout for P. Babu alias ‘glider’ Babu, who organised the adventure sport at the Codissia Grounds in Coimbatore. The police have booked a case under IPC section 304 (A) for causing death due to negligence and special teams are searching for Babu, who is now on the run.

“A clear picture on the circumstances that led to the fatal fall of the business man will be known only after securing him. We may also get to know on others associated with the event only on securing Babu, said an official. After preliminary enquires police believe that the hook latched to the belt strapped around Malleswara Rao (53) had come loose leading to his fatal fall from a height of over 50 metres.

The spectators complained that there were no safety measures in place during the parasailing event. There was no ambulance facility or even emergency vehicles stationed at the sporting venue. Several persons took the adventurous sport of parasailing, organised jointly by Indian Aerospace and Sports Club and Coimbatore Medical College (CMC) as part of the latter’s golden jubilee celebrations.

Meanwhile, a post-mortem was done on the body of the deceased at Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) and was handed over to his family members. The body was airlifted to Chennai and taken to his native village in Andhra Pradesh, where the last rites are likely to be performed
