Khammam: The explosive disposal plan of police created tension after the material exploded suddenly at Mangalampadu under Khammam Rural on Thursday.
As per available details, following court instructions, personnel from Khammam Rural police station decided to dispose of the explosives that were seized while they were being shifted illegally. A bomb disposal team from Hyderabad was asked to monitor the disposal act being undertaken by 20 persons. The explosives, including gellantins, detonators and black powder were shifted to the open area in Mangalagudem. The police blasted detonators first followed by gellatines.
Later, they dug a massive trench by using JCB and dropped the black powder in it. Unfortunately, the black powder exploded while opening a black powder bag. A spark came while dropping the powder into the trench and it exploded with a thunderous sound.
A part of the JCB machine broke and flew into the air. The police went to a shelter after the incident, in which three police men sustained minor injuries. The people of Gudurpadu, Tanagampadu, Pittalagudem, Theerthala and Mangalagudem experienced tremors following the explosion.
