Sainik school kicks off Kazhak farm

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The 48th Old Boys Reunion of Sainik School Kazhakootam was held at school campus here on Saturday. The events for the day started with Guard of Honour to the Chief Guest Lieutenant General Cherish Mathson, who currently commands Sudarshan Chakra Corps and who belongs to the 1976 batch of the school. The chief guest and other dignitaries paid homage to the departed alumni at the Hut of Remembrance followed by laying wreath at the 'Stupa of Remembrance'.

Floral tributes were paid to V. K. Krishna Menon, erstwhile defence minister of India and to Col N. J. Nair, Capt R. Harshan, Maj Satish Chandran, and S/Lt R. M. Naresh who were killed during battle. While addressing the gathering, Lt. Gen extolled the virtues of a defence force career and drew the attention of the present generation to the spirit of the older generation. As part of the programme a 'Guruvandanam' was organised at the school auditorium in which the masters of the school, past and present were honoured. This was followed by a special cultural fest for the cadets, staff and families. Friendly matches in Cricket, Basketball, Volleyball and Football between the old veterans and school teams were also held.

The highlights of this year's OBA Reunion were the inauguration of the Kazhak Agro Farm with the aim of practising sustainable development for the future in the campus, dedication of project H920 (Clean safe drinking water for the cadets), inauguration of The 'Dhwani' music club (renovated, furnished and fully equipped under the patronage of the 1992 batch), OBA prize distribution for meritorious Kazhaks and illustrious Old Boys, and Contribution to Students Scholarship Fund (SSF). Two 'ignite' sessions were also organised for the cadets where Col Salil, Capt (IN) Jaykumar and Gp Capt Suraj gave motivational talks and presentations. SSK Principal Col. A. Rajiv presided over the closing ceremony and administrative officer Lt. Col. B. Girish Kumar also attended the OBA meeting. As many as 400 alumni along with their families attended this year's OBA Reunion.
