Kerala Budget 2016: Cyber Park gets Rs 100 crore
Kozhikode: The IT industry in the region has welcomed the Rs 100 crore outlay for the infrastructural development of the Government Cyber Park, Kozhikode that will see the largest IT building in the State after the Startup Village in Ernakulam. It has also given the thumbs up to all the proposals for the IT sector, announced by State Finance Minister Thomas Issac in his budget for 2016- 17 on Friday .
At present the work of the major IT facility comprising 2.88 lakh square feet is underway and is expected to be complete in the next one month. According to officials, the Rs 100 crore would help in enhancing the major infrastructure of the centre.
“Even though we were confident about getting a favorable response from the new Government for the development of the Cyber Park, we never expected such a huge sum to be allotted for the centre alone apart from the nearly Rs 50 crore already spent for the construction of the first phase of the building”, said Ajith Kumar, Chief Executive Officer Government Cyber Park, Kozhikode.
There was a strong opportunity for IT and Information Technology Enabled Service (ITES) companies to tap into the huge potential of untapped human resources, he said. Many ITES majors were looking at this region as a potential destination because of its high rate of literacy, the high quality of living and the closeness to major IT destinations like Bangalore, Mysore and Mangalore, he added.
Cyber Park Kozhikode is the third IT hub of Kerala and is developing at a fast pace in Kannur and Kasaragod. The park centre of the Cyber Park was opened in 2014 and has four companies including Montura VFX, Cape Stone and Aufait so far.
