Thiruvananthapuram: This was a budget that the state was waiting for, according to District Panchayath President V K Madhu. “The budget does not just address the present situation, but gives a direction for the state’s future. Take for example the concepts where all KSRTC buses will be powered with CNG in 5 years and extremely old vehicles are encouraged to be abandoned. This is visionary,” he said.
That the budget has been presented at a time when the state was going through a financial crunch makes it even better, he said. “Despite the state’s situation there is no major tax increase. Moreover, the social welfare pension has been increased to Rs 1000. A department for women’s welfare is about to be formed. There are many fresh initiatives about the budget,” he said.
