Chittoor police launches Prati Gadapaku Mahila Police' for women safety & security
HYDERABAD: The Chittoor district police have introduced the Prati Gadapaku Mahila Police (PGMP) programme aimed at ensuring the "safety and security" of women and children.
The first of its kind in AP, this initiative will see dedicated Mahila Police officers visiting every household in villages and towns to help strengthen the safety systems. They would conduct an extensive door-to-door survey, identifying and addressing the types of crimes against women and children across localities in the district.
On Friday, Anantapur range DIG Ammireddy, along with collector Shanmohan and SP Rishanth Reddy launched the programme and introduced a dedicated app in Chittoor. The DIG emphasized the crucial role of Mahila Police in the programme. He advised the Mahila Police to record the issues identified during the survey in the dedicated app.
The information collected in the door-to-door survey will be uploaded onto a specialized app designed for crime prevention. The identified crimes, issues, and challenges will be communicated to the respective police stations, as well as top officials at the DSP and SP levels through a dashboard. Prompt action will be taken by the SHOs, based on the received information, he said.
Chittoor district SP Rishanth Reddy said the initial phase of the programme would involve 35 wards from 35 police stations in the district.
The DIG released a brochure providing information about the initiative. He also visited houses in the 5th ward of Chittoor, explaining the survey plan to the women in the area. "Mahila Police will distribute a brochure to each household. This aims to raise awareness about crimes against women and children, domestic violence, cybercrimes, and drug abuse," explained SP Rishanth.
