Toddy sector gets a shot in the arm

The government has decided to permit sale of toddy in three-star and above star classification hotels in the state.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The LDF government has given a major boost to toddy sector in the liquor policy announcing the proposal to set up a Toddy Board soon. The government has decided to permit sale of toddy in three-star and above star classification hotels in the state. “Many foreign tourists coming the state have a liking for toddy. Our effort will be to provide quality toddy to such guests,” the chief minister said.

He said the toddy industry was facing a major crisis. “Our government is committed to ensure employment for workers, better life, protection and social security. All these issues will be considered by the proposed Toddy Board in detail. While selling toddy shops, priority would be given to toddy workers cooperative societies. In the case of shops which are not auctioned, these would be given to the works on annual rental. In places where there no cooperative societies, priority would be given to people who were running the shops earlier.
