BJP hartal hits student verification in Thiruvananthapuram

Headcount scheduled on 6th working day will be held today.

Thiruvananthapuram: The sixth-day verification process disrupted by the BJP hartal in the district Thursday will now be held on Friday. One of the complaints was that the schools were denying UID data of students seeking a transfer from CBSE to the state syllabus because the headcount is UID-based and the staff fixation was done in the aided and government schools based on the number of students admitted based on sixth-day verification.

DPI K. V. Mohankumar had even received complaints about one CBSE school in Thiruvananthapuram which registered the name of a student who sought transfer to an aided school. The manipulation was difficult in the case of UID-based headcount as the students would undergo a biometric scanning of ten fingers and the iris for collecting the data. Manipulation was done either to retain the already approved teacher posts or to increase the number by the student strength.

As per estimates, the number of students in government schools would come to around 35 lakh this year. However, the exact number of students who got admitted to schools would be known only after the sixth-day verification process, where the official statistics of students are collected on the sixth working day. The DPI has also issued a circular directing all schools and educational institutions to generate the sixth working day report of this year only through Sampoorna software of the IT@school.
