Om Prakash's DG and IGP appointment challenged in Karnataka HC

Mahapatra has challenged the promotion of Om Prakash on the ground that seniority was overlooked.

BENGALURU: The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday issued notices to state government and others respondents following a petition filed by IPS officer Sushanth Mahapatra challenging the appointment of Om Prakash as DG&IGP.

Mahapatra has challenged the promotion of Om Prakash on the ground that seniority was overlooked, while making the appointment, and an error was committed in the procedure by not consulting the Union Public Service, while making appointments to the top post.

The court adjourned the matter after the government advocate sought time to produce the original record of the selection process for court’s perusal.

RTE quota
The High Court on Wednesday disposed of the PIL, which had challenged the rejections of 86,514 applications submitted by the economically weaker sections of the society seeking admission under RTE quota, without conducting proper verification.

A division bench, headed by Chief Justice S.K. Mukherjee, disposed the petition after the government submitted that elaborate advertisement were given in newspapers and other popular media calling the guardians of the rejected candidates to get their documents verified for the second round of lottery selection.

It further said that eligible candidates will be considered for that round. While disposing the PIL the bench directed the government to complete the selections process at the earliest.
