Bishop Jacob Muricken leaves hospital, kidney with Sooraj

Bishop says God's blessings enabled him to donate organ.

Kochi: Pala Auxiliary Bishop Jacob Muricken, who donated his kidney to Sooraj, 31, of Malappuram, left the VPS Lakeshore Hospital here on Wednesday after recuperating from the surgery.

While leaving the hospital, he said that God’s blessings had enabled him to donate his organ and added that he was happy to inspire society through the act. Nephrologist Dr Aby Abraham advised him one-month rest and asked him to come after one week for check-up. Urologist Dr George P. Abraham said that his surgery wound had healed and he can take the usual food.

The bishop said that several other patients were waiting for donors and urged the people with goodwill to come forward to donate organs and give a new life to them.

Sooraj, who received the kidney, was shifted to room from ICU on Wednesday. Doctors said that he will have to spend one more week in the hospital. The organ donation was held on the first of this month.

Sooraj is an employee of Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala. He was born with one kidney which he realised after he contracted urine infection last year. It was diagnosed that his kidney was malfunctioning and needed transplantation. Later, he contacted Kidney Federation of India headed by Fr Davis Chirmmel from where the bishop got to know about it. Fr Chirammel was also present when bishop Jacob Muricken left the hospital.
