Daughters perform mother's last rites after cops assure distribution of property

HYDERABAD: The greed of two daughters proved that money was more important for them than their mother's love. It was only after Kamareddy police handed over letters from the bank approving Rs 1.25 lakh to them that the two - Pentavva and Yellavva – shifted the body of their mother Kistavva from a government hospital and performed the last rites on Monday.

Three days ago, 70-year-old Kistavva succumbed to prolonged illness in a government hospital. When she was alive, she did not distribute her property, which included a house in Kamareddy and fixed deposits to the tune of Rs 1.25 lakh.

Assistant SI of Kamareddy town Laxan said that they approached the bank, which assured to transfer the amount to the nominees. "It was only after the bank gave an assurance that the two daughters came to the hospital and took their mother's. We provided a free ambulance and JCB for performing the last rites," he said.
