25 per cent of LRS applications face rejection

The existing LRS scheme is a continuation of the 2015 scheme

Hyderabad: Nearly 25 per cent of the 1.68 lakh LRS (land regularisation scheme) applications are likely to be rejected. A revenue department verification has found that the applicants had encroached into government lands after the cut-off date of June 2, 2014.

The government had, on February 14, given the last opportunity to citizens to regularise the encroachments of government land, under Government Orders 58 and 59. It asked them to submit online applications from February 21 to
March 31.

Nearly 96,000 applications were received under GO 58 and 72,000 applications under GO 59.

While GO 58 was issued to regularise plots up to 125 sq yards for applicants from BPL (below poverty line) free of cost, GO 59 pertains to regularising lands by collecting the present basic value of the land depending upon the size of the plot area.

A year after the formation of Telangana state in June 2014, the TRS government issued the two GOs for regularisation of lands under LRS in the possession of applicants prior to formation of the Telagnana state on June 2, 2014.

The existing LRS scheme is a continuation of the 2015 scheme. In 2015, the government received 3.46 lakh applications under GO 58 and 48,394 applications under GO 59. But, after verification, the government kept 2.54 lakh applications pending under GO 58 and 31,329 applications pending under
GO 59.

However, after receipt of several representations from MLAs seeking LRS again, the government gave a final opportunity in February this year. Official sources said the verification found that a significant number of applications this time faced rejection. They did not meet the stipulation vis-à-vis the cut-off date of June 2, 2014.

Officials used Google Maps to establish that the government lands were encroached after the cut-off date of June 2, 2014 and such applications faced rejection.
