Telangana police vans to have mobile toilets
Hyderabad: The state police department is all set to launch mobile toilets in every police van in all the 31 districts of Telangana, in next few months. As of now, only three to four vans in the city police force have this facility.
Sanjay Kumar Jain, Inspector General for Provisioning and Logistics said, “Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao of Telangana has promised to allocate us a budget for this. We are waiting for the approval. After the approval, we will chalk out the plan for its distribution throughout the state.”
He added, “This facility has been primarily designed keeping in mind the women police in our force.” The officer also confirmed that so far the feedback received for the toilets was overwhelming, and that the department was looking forward to this project.
A senior lady constable from Nalgonda said, “We are happy with the initiative taken in this direction. It becomes very difficult during bandobast duties, for us policewomen to attend the call of nature, especially when we are on the outskirts and when there are no clean toilets near the duty area assigned to us.”
The Karnataka State Police Reserve recently launched a mobile toilet in a vehicle, at a cost of around Rs 1.5 lakh. A senior police officer said that based on the demand from both men and women, the project would be initiated. Currently one mobile toilet is functioning and the Karnataka State Police Reserve is expecting five more.
