No takers for 19 working groups at Thiruvananthapuram Corporation
Inaugurating, mayor V. K. Prasanth had elaborated on the government's policy to protect government schools.

Thiruvananthapuram: There were no takers for many of the 19 working groups, at Thiruvananthapuram Corporation’s first ward committee meeting held in connection with the 13th Five Year Plan. There was no one to discuss issues in key sectors. Nalanchira councillor Thresiamma Thomas asked why there was no one for the ‘power’ when there were so many matters relating to electric connections. They had many issues. For example, a 100-m road between Parottukonam Vazhimukku Road and Devaswom Lane, without electricity or street lights, has become a hub of anti-social elements, says Krishnankutty R., an executive committee member of Devaswom Lane Residents’ Association.
Inaugurating, mayor V. K. Prasanth had elaborated on the government’s policy to protect government schools. The meeting was held at Government High School, Parottukonam, where the strength had decreased, according to Ward convenor Prakash Puliyadi. It needed better infrastructure. But there was no one for the working group on ‘education’.
Though planners like former Corporation secretary M. Najeeb were present at the inaugural, they did not stay during the discussion. Vanchiyoor P. Babu, chairperson, Development Standing Committee, shared that by April 20 all ward committee meetings will be complete. The ward’s burning issue was the lack of a proper drainage system, according to S. Ramachandran Nair, a resident.
