Kerala's society for self-financing colleges
KOCHI: The decision of the MG University Syndicate on Friday to approve and adopt the decision of the state government to transfer self-financing institutions under MG University to a society named ‘Centre for Professional and Advanced Studies’ in Kottayam, has rekindled the hopes of 900 students to study various medical courses for lesser fees in the self-financing sector. The society will control School of Medical Education, School of Technology and Applied Sciences, School of Life Sciences, School of Communication and Journalism, School of Teacher Education, Thodupuzha Engineering College and School of Library Science under MG varsity.
MGU vice-chancellor Dr Babu Sebastian said that all the teaching and non-teaching staff of these institutions will continue to work under the society on contract. “We are transferring asset worth Rs 400 crore to the society and Rs 32 crore as liquid money which relate to fees, deposits and PF arrear amount of employees which alone comes to Rs 8.6 crore. We sacrificed a lot for students to study by paying less fees and more universities will benefit as they also can take their SF institutions under the society,” Dr Babu Sebastian said.
