Kerala: Students spend vacation helping anganawadis
KOZHIKODE: At a time when school students are busy with their summer camps and related activities, a few students of Kallachi Government Higher Secondary School decided to spend their two months of vacation on social service. The result was to help anganawadis in Nadappuram region to raise their standards and help them to improve their infrastructure.
In this attempt, these students, mostly from higher secondary standards, kept aside one week of their vacation to raise funds to buy toys, books and other essentials required for an anganawadi. These children collected nearly Rs 20,000 and bought these items and distributed them among the children of BP anganawadi in Nadappuram, as part of the first phase of the initiative.
Talking about the venture, Sharath S, one of the students, said, “Our mission was to provide toys, books, writing boards, display boards and other essential products required for the anganawadis adopted by NSS in Nadappuram region”.
A function was held at BP anganawadi, where the students handed over the presents to the anganawadi authorities and the children. The function was inaugurated by ward member P Molly and presided over by NSS programme coordinator TP Sajith Kumar.
