Councillor V Vijayakumar raises hair-spilt case
Thiruvananthapuram: The corporation council meeting on Friday was nothing like the meeting of Saturday last which Mayor V.K. Prasanth described as the most violent in the corporation’s history. A few unpleasant things remained from the turbulent meeting– a police case against BJP councillor V. Vijayakumar and the flexboards with a photograph suggesting he is pulling the hair of LDF councillor Rasiya Beegum.
Based on a complaint by Rasiya Beegum, an FIR under section 354 (assault on women with the intent of outraging modesty) has been filed against the Thuruthummoola councillor. The BJP councillors on Friday tried to pressurise the LDF councillor to withdraw the case. Nemom councillor M.R. Gopan said, “it was decided at the all-party meeting on Saturday not to file any case. So the Mayor should intervene and withdraw the case,” he said.
UDF councillor Johnson Joseph also requested that the case be withdrawn. The Mayor replied that it was an individual who filed the case and the party could do nothing in this regard. Rasiya, when contacted, said that she will not succumb to pressure. A counter case has been filed by Vijayakumar against various LDF councillors including the Mayor, alleging that they attacked him.
