C K Janu to explain ties with NDA

Janu's entry has come at the right time for them.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Janadhipathya Ooru Vikasana Munani, an outfit of adivasis, will seek explanation from tribal leader C K Janu on her decision to join NDA. The Vikasana Munnani comprise of 60 odd members including Janu. “We have invited Janu to the meeting being held in Kottayam on Saturday. Though we have not been able to speak to her directly, the message has been conveyed. But she is yet to confirm her participation," said Adivasi Gothra Mahasabha leader M Geethanandan.

The Mahasabha leadership said if Janu stuck to her decision to be part of NDA, then she would be removed from the Munani and Sabha in her absence. "It will certainly be a set back for the Mahasabha. She has been the face of gothra mahasabha movement but we have no other choice,” said Geethanandan.

The leadership does not believe that NDA would have given any concrete assurance on solving the adivasi issues in the state. Her decision to join NDA seems to be out of frustration due to the raw deal given to adivasis by successive UDF and LDF governments in the state.

Geethanandan said the track record of BJP led governments at the Centre , Jharkhand and Chattisgarh clearly indicated their anti adivasi stand. "They are safeguarding the interests of mining lobby which is indulging in massive destruction of forests, water and other natural resources in tribal heartland. You cannot expect anything positive from such a political dispensation , ” he said and added that the recent Soni Sori incident brought to the fore, the ruthless face of BJP government.

“BJP is aware that Janu may not make much difference to NDA’s electoral prospects in the state. But for them it’s a prize catch since she will be showcased as their tribal face,” he added.

Many believe, the BJP is desperate to project itself as pro-dalit and pro-adivasi in view of the huge setback received after Rohit Vemula suicide and JNU issue. Janu's entry has come at the right time for them.
