Hyderabadi haleem lucky to get geographical indication tag

The Hyderabadi haleem's origins can be traced back to the period of the Asaf Jahi dynasty.

Hyderabad: Hyderabadi haleem was lucky to get its GI tag in 2010 in the category of food.

The Haleem Makers’ Association were able to successfully prove origin and the National Research Centre on Meat also allowed the certification of the Hyderabad haleem.

Much care goes into cooking the city’s version of the dish as preparation time can last a whopping 12 hours.

The Hyderabadi haleem’s origins can be traced back to the period of the Asaf Jahi dynasty.

Opposing claims had pushed the idea that haleem had originally arrived from Persia or Iran.
