Home for blind to come up in Kakinada

Kakinada: Kakinada district collector Kritika Shukla has instructed officials to identify a site for construction of a home for the blind in Kakinada. She also ordered that the new building being built for the deaf and dumb school be completed at the earliest.

The department for welfare of the disabled is running a disability training and production centre, a hostel for disabled, and a home and school for the blind.

However, the Association for the Blind has requested Kakinada collector to improve infrastructure facilities at their hostels and schools. A building is under construction to house the school for deaf and dumb. Kritika Shukla instructed officials to complete this building and construct another home for the blind on the nearby vacant land.

She told officials that the building could be constructed utilising the Corporate Social Responsibility Fund.

The collector said Annamma Cheruvu in Kakinada city will be modernised and the two tanks being built for storing drinking water will be completed soon. She instructed officials not to allow anyone carrying liquor into the Annammaghati Park, as they are becoming a nuisance for locals staying in the area.
