Vijayapura: Residents in some areas of Vijayapura Taluk experienced mild tremors on Friday morning.
According to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), a 3.0 magnitude earthquake occurred in Vijayapura district, with its epicenter located 4.3 kilometers southeast of Ukumanal village in the Hegadihal gram panchayat of Vijayapura Taluk. The seismic event occurred at 6.52 am on Friday.
"This type of earthquake would not create any harm to the local community as the intensity observed is low, though there might be local vibrations felt. The epicentre falls in Seismic Zone III and the region is void of any structural discontinuities as per the Tectonic map. The community need not panic as the magnitude & intensity observed are low," KSNDMC said in a statement.
