TIRUPATI: The body of a 10-year-old boy who was swept away in a local water body near Mangalam while fishing two days earlier was recovered on the outskirts of Tirupati on Thursday.
According to the police, on Tuesday, Nikhil, a resident of Sathyanarayanapuram, went fishing with his grandfather and friends at a nearby body of water. He was washed away by the surging seas, which were exacerbated by the impact of Cyclone Michaung the next day.
His disappearance, however, went unreported by his grandfather and friends until much later. Concerned for the boy's safety, parents filed a police report, causing the local police to conduct a two-day search operation through the impacted areas. Nikhil's lifeless body was found on the outskirts of the city on Thursday, putting an end to the hunt. The body was moved for postmortem procedures in order to ascertain the cause of death.
