Railway staff rescue student trapped between bogie and platform

Vishakapatnam: A first year MCA student had a miraculous escape when she was trapped between the bogie of a Rayagada-bound passenger train and platform on Wednesday morning. The incident took place at about 8.20 am when she tried to get down while the train was still moving. She hails from Annavaram and daily travels to Duvvada to pursue her studies.

The railway staff lost no time and rushed to the station to undertake rescue operations. Staff from the civil engineering department, operating, commercial, RPF, GRP, and others worked for an hour to rescue the young woman.

The engineering staff drilled the platform and removed two blocks to free the trapped student. She escaped with minor injuries but was in shock until she was put in the ambulance and sent to a corporate hospital for treatment.

Her parents arrived from Annavaram after they were informed about the incident by the railway officials.

Divisional Railway Manager Anup Satpathy appreciated the swift rescue operation to save the student’s life. He announced a token group cash award and individual citations. The DRM urged passengers to use safe travel methods and avoid risky movements on train rides.
