HYDERABAD: The Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (Nims) will soon have 350 ICU beds, up from the current 100-beds. The augmented ICU services will be available by mid-January.
Announcing this during a visit to Nims on Monday, health minister T. Harish Rao, who inaugurated several new facilities at the hospital, said the government will spend Rs 153 crore for procuring equipment that could kick-start robotic surgeries at Nims, and to improve facilities in the radiology, pathology, nephrology, and several other departments.
As part of strengthening of services at the hospital, the number of ventilators was increased to 209. Currently, Nims has 89 ventilators, and another 120 are on order, he said.
The minister also instructed the hospital authorities to ensure all admitted patients receive proper diet irrespective of their status as paying or Arogyasri patients.
Similarly, patient attendants should get meals for Rs 5 each and this will happen soon, he said.
He also said since there was no gynaecology department to attend to pregnant women at Nims, the government has decided to attach the Khairatabad government hospital to Nims which will be developed into a facility that will treat pregnant women with high risk health conditions.
