Hyderabad: Youth ends life over joblessness

Boppi Chandramohan cleared the recently conducted teacher's eligibility test by scoring 86 marks.

Hyderabad: In a second incident in less than a week after Osmania University student E. Murali hanged himself to death on the campus, another student committed suicide in Vikarabad district. The deceased was identified as Boppi Chandramohan, who consumed an unknown pesticide mixed with water. Depression over job prospects forced the 24-year-old youth to end his life.

Chandramohan, a resident of Veersettipalli village in Tandur mandal, joined the BEd course after completing graduation. In the recently conducted teacher’s eligibility test, he scored 86 marks. But lack of job pushed him into depression. His family members said that he had attempted suicide thrice earlier. On Tuesday night, he went to his elder brother's house at Tandur. After he reached home, he fell unconscious and was rushed to a hospital. He died while undergoing treatment on Wednesday night.

The rising jobless has become a major political issue in the country, including Telangana. In the state, Opposition parties and Telangana JAC have been organising protests to exert political pressurise the government. The protests have put Osmania University, the hotbed of Telangana agitation for statehood, on a boil again. The slowdown in the informal sector and small businesses in the country has appeared to have contributed to the job losses and a slower pace of job creation.
