Coast Guard saves fishermen in Palk Bay

Chennai: In a swift operation, Indian Coast Guard Ship C-432 based at Mandapam located and rescued a distressed Fishing Boat with 10 crew about 20 NM North East of Pamban in Palk Bay.

The distressed boat had suffered hull damage leading to uncontrolled ingress of water and failure of engine, a communique from Coast Guard said on Saturday.

The fishing boat had sailed from Navoor harbor, Nagapattinam early on October 5 and had suffered a crack in hull at night the same day which led to the emergency situation onboard.

As soon as information about the boat was received from the Fisheries Department, Rameshwaram in the early hours of Friday, Indian Coast Guard station at Mandapam sailed ICGS C-432 which was successful in locating and rescuing the distressed boat along with crew.

The boat and all 10 crew were safely handed over by ICG to the Fisheries Department, Rameshwaram near Pamban fishing Harbour.
