Salafi preacher Shamsudheen Palath faces arrest
Kozhikode: Salafi preacher Shamsudheen Palath, 42, who has been slapped with the Unlawful Activities Preventon Act (UAPA), is likely to be arrested soon, according to top police officials. The Nadakkavu police had slapped UAPA on him four days ago for his provocative speech at Karaparamba in 2014, as the preacher moved the High Court for an anticipatory bail. The UAPA was invoked in the wake of a complaint filed by Kasargod IUML leader C. Shukkoor over Palath’s speech. The case filed in Kasargod was later handed over to Nadakkavu police.
The videos of Palath’s speeches are still available on ‘YouTube’. Shamsuddin Palath aka Shamsuddin Fareed from Chevayur here is one of the two Salafi preachers who propagate extreme ideology and instigate believers to flee to the caliphate to lead a 'real' Islamic life. Palath had made two similar provocative speeches at Karaparamba aimed at communal divide instigating that true Muslims cannot live amidst ‘Khafirs’ as Allah would question it. Palath, having masters degree in Arabic, was a teacher in various Arabic institutions. He was arrested in 2012 by Tirur police for allegedly raping his student when he was teaching in an Arabic college at Valavannur.
