Kerala: 2 dead, 3 injured as tipper rams car

The people residing in the area said accidents involving vehicles entering the main road from the crossroads are quite frequent in the area

KOCHI: Two members of a family were killed and three others sustained grave injuries in an accident when a tipper lorry rammed into the car in which they were traveling near the Alliance Junction on Friday early morning. Rajesh, 42 of Ambili Nivas near Thrikkathara Temple in Irumpanam and his mother-in-law Sujatha, 60 are the two persons killed in the accident. Sujita, 36-year old wife of Rajesh and his two children Gautam (12) and Anagha (14) who have suffered injuries are admitted in a private hospital.

The accident took place around 5.15 in the morning while the car was entering to the main road from a cross road. The tipper lorry, speeding along the national highway, seemed to have smashed into the right side of the car, entering to the NH from Eroor Road. Rajesh was driving the vehicle. The local people and the police took out the victims after breaking the badly damaged car. Both Rajesh and Sujatha were found dead on the spot.

A spokesman of the private hospital said two of the injured are still in the Intensive Care Unit while the other person is in the ward. The people residing in the area said accidents involving vehicles entering the main road from the crossroads are quite frequent in the area. The presence of traffic police is limited to the SN Junction. The traffic police should initiate some measures to deploy personal for alerting motorists driving into the main road using the crossroads. The police has filed a case in connection with the accident and a search is also mounted for the driver of the tipper lorry.
