Chetpet Lake to get solar' aquarium
Chennai: There is good news for parents as the Chetpet Lake is all set to get more entertaining facilities that children would love.
Following a recent announcement of chief minister J. Jayalalithaa that Rs 6.75 crore has been allocated to set up a solar powered aquarium and a virtual reality centre, the state fisheries department has now finalised the design to set up these facilities. A few designs were discussed with the state fisheries department and the proposed aquarium will have big fish.
Engineers and marine biologists have commenced the technical work on the project and the structures on completion will increase the footfall, a senior official said.
The kids will feel as if they are entering a big stadium as the new complex will provide 360-degree view for the visitors. Videos related to marine and wildlife will also be beamed for them during their visit, the official said.
To ensure the office reception is lively, large sized fish tanks have been placed with carps in them and there are plans to make the lake more interactive to the people, particularly kids, visiting during weekends.
"As on date, Chennai does not have a big aquarium to entertain children. The one located inside Vandalur zoo has collections of the regular ornamental fishes and it does not excite the public. An aquarium in the heart of Chennai will be an instant hit," said M Manoj, a regular visitor to Chetpet Lake for morning walks.
