BJP leader Subramanian Swamy calls for President's Rule in Tamil Nadu

BJP leader said a retired Chief Secretary has been allowed to conduct the business of state, in an obvious reference to Sheela Balakrishnan.

Chennai: BJP leader Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy on Friday demanded that the Union government impose President’s rule in Tamil Nadu due to “indefinite” hospitalisation of Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa and the “administrative disarray” that has followed.

In a press release issued in New Delhi, Mr Swamy demanded that Home Minister Rajnath Singh invoke Article 365 by imposing President’s rule and keeping the Assembly under suspended animation.

“The Apollo Hospitals has expressly made clear in a press release that she is required to remain in hospital for a further period. Hence the pre-emptive action by the Union government is not only constitutional, but also urgent,” Mr Swamy said.

The BJP leader said a “retired Chief Secretary” has been allowed to conduct the business of state, in an obvious reference to Sheela Balakrishnan, Advisor to the Chief Minister.

“There has been an activisation of the sleeper cell of the Islamic State group” in the districts of Ramanathapuram, Tirunelveli, Madurai and Kanyakumari and a collaborate and supportive action by the Dravidar Kazhagam, leftover LTTE and disruptive groups such as underground Naxalites, to create an upheaval in the state, causing a massive disorder and lawlessness,” he said.
