Kozhikode: The CPM has begun organisational elections while the branch conferences have already begun. Thrissur is set to host the party state conference in February next year after completing the branch, local, area, district level conferences across the state. “The CPM has acknowledged the need to attract various groups; gender activists, rights activists, greens and others to their fold and to form a rapport with them to counter the venomous politics of the BJP-RSS. To that end, the party is expected to promote leaders who have a liberal image in the public domain,” said a party state committee leader.
But another leader said there was no such precedence to assess a leader by the likes and shares he or she mobilizes on social media. According to sources, chances are high for the appointment of women district secretaries this time. “The CPM always gives space to youth, women and other marginalised sections at all levels. We have attracted several cadres from other parties and new branches have been formed,” said CPM Kozhikode district secretary P. Mohanan.
